Australia will be among the first group of nations to roll out golf’s new world handicap system. The World Handicap System (WHS) will be launched in early 2020 and will provide golfers with a unified and more inclusive handicapping system for the first time.
- Single unifying system around the world
- Counts the best 8 scores in 20-round span
- Playing conditions calculation to potentially adjust for scores played in abnormal weather
- Course ratings to be expanded and is one of two primary factors in handicap math along with slope rating
- A player can receive a handicap in as few as 54 holes, submitted as either 9 or 18 rounds in tournament or recreational play (stroke or stableford format)
- Includes features to prevent handicaps that do not accurately reflect ability
- Maximum handicap will be raised to 54.0
